KOMPAS-3D V23 Is Released: Reverse Engineering, Direct Modeling, and 100+ New Features

ASCON presents KOMPAS-3D V23, a new release of its flagship CAD product. The new release focuses on the needs of high-tech industries.

The new version offers updated 3D and 2D design tools and industry-specific applications.

With each new release, KOMPAS-3D gains more functionality to become a high-performance engineering tool. The new version includes advanced design and reverse engineering, imported geometry, and complex shape modeling tools. We are confident that our users will appreciate the suggestions from high-tech industries that we have implemented.

A native Linux KOMPAS-3D is in the making. We are strictly following the roadmap.

BASIC 3D MODELING TOOLS

This release offers new polygonal geometry tools that make reverse engineering easy. Now you can specify a direction along an object and provide numerical properties of the fitting surface created from a polygonal object. The Deviation Analysis command estimates deviations between the underlying polygonal object and a surface, body, or face. Deviations are visualized as color maps.

The new Groove and Arc Groove commands create slots in 3D sketches, fragments, or drawings.

A designer now can easily model such elementary bodies as parallelepipeds, cylinders, or spheres by specifying their properties: no initial objects, sketches, axes, or curves are required.

If your product range is extensive, you would certainly appreciate the new Model Family feature which creates new model files from templates and spreadsheets.

Using the Replace Components command, you can change a new source file for one or more assembly components and also match the old and new components.

There are new direct modeling commands for handling 3D models imported from other CAD systems:

  • Replace Faces: Replaces selected faces of a body or surfaces with new ones.
  • Change Fillet Size: Edits constant radius fillets by increasing or decreasing the radius.
  • Resize Face: Edits the diameter of a cylindrical or spherical face.

Replace Faces

In the Lofting operation, you can now change the cross-section shape as it moves along the path.

One of the most suggested new features is Surface Rounding. This command creates a transition surface between two sets of surfaces that may not share an edge.

The Name property is now dynamic and can include not only static text but one or more live references. You may need multiple references when the part has no drawing, and the part name must include the material or manufacturing dimensions.

The Send to Source command propagates the Designation, Name, and Note properties of the product to its components. You can propagate these properties to an individual component or all components.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS

3D shafts & mechanical gears, our primary mechanical engineering application, has been significantly upgraded. In a KOMPAS-Part document, you can now create and edit shaft models based on the pre-configured 2D shaft model. The 2D and 3D shaft models are stored in the same part file and are associative.

Also, you can generate 3D models of link belt chain sprockets.
