Materials Knowledge Database

Corporate database of Materials and Stock items is designed for centralized use and storage of information about materials and ranges. Its use as a part of software complex for production design and process development, enterprise planning and managing, integrates various material usage applications across all factory departments.

The reference allows:

  • Selecting materials and stock items from a catalog of materials, shapes, machining processes and policies;
  • Selecting materials and stock items from a user-defined custom set;
  • Accessing structural, mechanical, technological and other material properties of the selected objects in the reference. Those may include properties inherited from other objects, stock item sizes for visual assessment or analysis via the applications integrated with the reference;
  • Accessing usability and usage data, lists of possible substitutions and substitution conditions for the selected materials.
  • Getting profile dimensions for a selected stock item;
  • In the search mode, identify the desired material or other object in the reference, satisfying a number of criteria: purpose, properties, naming;
  • promptly access to required normative document

The reference provides:

  • Unified identification system for objects in the reference across all applications of the integrated software complex;
  • Adaptation to materials and stock items used across the factory according to the restricted list of material and stock item brands and rolled steel profiles according to usability statuses;
  • Account configuration according to access rights for editing company policies (a user account, a database administrator account);
  • Input and storage of material numbers according to the company classification, for further use in material resource planning systems;
  • Automatic registration of stock items in full compliance with company policies, and their broadcasting across various applications via program interface;
  • Sharing information stored in the reference with the integrated applications;
  • Organized storage of company policies;
  • Classification of materials, types of processes, object shapes and properties;
  • Input of, and access to, property values depending on various conditions (example: material strength characteristics depending on the type and conditions of heat processing).

The reference installation includes a database preset with various materials, their properties in various contexts, purpose and usability range, replacements and replacement conditions, lists of stock items and item instances, information on policies, etc. Additionally, the installation includes integration modules for SolidWorks and Inventor CAD systems.
The reference is built on object-oriented technology. It supports input, storage and communication of various data to integrated applications, thus addressing numerous tasks of production preparation and management without programmer's intervention.
The materials knowledge base reference relies in its operation on the reference of measurement units.

The required data can be provided via MS SQL Server 2000, Oracle, InterBase and Access data management systems.

Standard part database

This reference is a universal tool for accessing unified data from a designer’s, process engineer’s or other specialist’s account. The reference is accessible by any of the integrated external applications (KOMPAS-3D and other systems) for selecting a standardized part and its further use in this application. At the same time, the Reference can be used as a stand-alone software application, if desired for some accounts.

The interface for a standardized part selection is user-friendly and uniform (independent of the type of the selected part or the reference-calling application).

While working with the Reference, the user can:

  • Select a desired standardized part either by navigating throw the hierarchy of standardized parts or by specifying certain classification conditions that simplify searching from a particular account (for example, from the designer’s account).
  • Specify key characteristics of a standardized part in an arbitrary order.
  • Define applicability (representation) parameters for the selected standardized part in a particular document by selecting those from the list (for example, a level of details in a drawing, a certain projection view, etc.).
  • Generate sets of frequently used standardized parts for quick access.
